- As unbelievable as it sounds, a village for lytton in the state of British Columbia in Canada registered a record breaking temperature of almost 50°C last week. The fact that this comes as a big surprise is because Canada is one of the coldest countries on planet. Experts blame a heat dome as the reason behind this but the real cause is climate change. I explain how the extreme weather patterns are increasing in all parts of the world because of this, which means summers will become hotter and winters will become colder. And what can we do to stop the climate change?

I live in Vancouver, British Columbia. I passed through Lytton a couple of times after the fire. The scale of destruction was so massive that it was hard to believe. The mountains are all blackened and the town was abandoned and mostly burned. It was heartbreaking to see what once was a beautiful little town.

I live in canada.. and its true.., i could feel the weather changes.. in summer it was really hot here.. and it is estimated that this winter is going to be very cold and will break previous records.. In january, right now feels like temp is -24 in brampton.. i could imagine what will happen in feb. 🙁
I live in a near town to Lytton. Many people have died due to this extreme weather change. I have never seen such extreme heat in Canada.

I spent my childhood at a place where there’s a thermal power station and many coal mines. There temperatures crossed 50 degrees during summer couple of times. I know how it feels.

In Manitoba, Canada, I have seen -54 degree Celsius during winter. Now, it’s almost 40 degree. There is carbon tax in Canada since 2018, and there will be only electric car after 2035 . Canada has targeted zero carbon emissions for 2050.
Judging by the standards of Canada, I think it is blasphemous for them to take so much long for zero carbon emissions. China too has set the target of zero carbon emissions by 2060 (only 10 year late than Canada). And unlike Canada, China is the world's factory. It also has a much bigger population to feed than Canada. Also China is a developing country while Canada is a developed country . I think a target of 2037 would be more reasonable for developed countries like Canada

I don't know if Dhruv will ever read this but renewable energy isn't completely carbon neutral.
It takes a lot of energy to produced and mine aluminium and concrete and the rare-earth substances used in solar panels/hydro dams/ wind wheels. All that is produced using coal and the energy required to "smelt" Al from its compounds are so massive that it can't be produced without chemical energy under current technology.
No idea how many will ever read this but this is a sad but true fact.

I have been living here in Ontario, CA for the last 3 years and I can say that there’s been a constant change in the climate here that I’ve been experiencing. I have heard and watched in the news that most people living in Lytton, BC have started evacuating. It’s crazy. I can also say the summers here is really hot and with the heat wave, it gets unbearable.

I live in Canada and this sends chills down to my spine. This should be a warning for all of humankind it is absolutely not normal to reach such temperature here. Please do take all actions to reduce your carbon footprint.
1) Please stop the use of single use plastic.
2) when going out to purchase a good please seek if it's possible to buy second hand and if the article being purchased is of absolute necessity ( 98% of what we purchase end up in landfills)
3) India is already doing a great job at this but please keep meat consumption to a bare minimum if at all possible please avoid.
